Scientists, engineers, information technologists and members of the public with an interest in science and technology are being encouraged to attend the March 24 to 25 symposium of the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST).

The event, which will take place at the Frank Collymore Hall, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, will be held under the theme: Science & Technology Research: Driving Economic Growth – Securing our Future.

Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ronald Jones, is expected to address the opening ceremony on Tuesday, March 24, at 9:00 a.m.

With a key aim of providing a platform for the promotion of scientific and technological research in national development, it will enable scientists, engineers, and technologists to exchange information with each other and to share research findings with the general population.??Presentations will encompass all areas of science and technology, especially those which can be used in the further development of Barbados.

On Wednesday, March 25, participants will get the opportunity to see science students, aged 15 to 18, compete in the inaugural Science and Technology (S&T) Speak-Off Competition that forms part of the conference.??This starts at 9:00 a.m., and is designed to enhance presentation skills and research capability, while encouraging a culture of S&T research among the youth.

Senior Technical Officer with the NCST, Arlene Weekes, in encouraging public participation, said: ???It is guaranteed to make them more aware of the latest developments in S&T and how these can impact on their lifestyle. They will also be lending their support and knowledge to the youth who are the future generation of scientists and researchers.???
