Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley will partner with the United Nations Subregional Team for Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States next Monday, November 19, to launch an interactive, mobile gallery showcasing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These 17 SDGs, otherwise known as the Global Goals, form a cohesive, integrated and indivisible package of global aspirations that the world commits to achieving by 2030.

Under the Caribbean Multi-Country Sustainable Development Framework, the United Nations has created a SDG Gallery that can raise awareness and advocacy toward the localization and achievement of the SDGs. As an interactive, mobile gallery rooted within the Caribbean context, it will afford citizens an opportunity to see how the 2030 Agenda connects to their daily lives.

The gallery will create a multi-sensory, hands-on experience, that invites participants to reflect critically on the core principles underpinning the agenda (universality, interconnectedness and indivisibility, inclusiveness and commitment to leaving no one behind) and their role in the multi-stakeholder partnership. It is an educational tool that is being made available to the Government of Barbados and other partners to promote awareness of and commitment to the 2030 Agenda.

Students, the public and civil society are being encouraged to visit the SDG Gallery at the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, The Garrison, St. Michael, from Tuesday, November 20 to Wednesday, November 28. There will be no entry fee and the gallery will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends.

Visitors will go on a ‘Mission 2030’ journey to discover how the 17 Global Goals relate to their day-to-day lives in the Caribbean and how taking action with regards to them can help tackle their most pressing challenges.

Barbados and fellow member states of the United Nations agreed to set the world on a path towards sustainable development through the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on September 25, 2015. The 2030 Agenda is a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

The SDGs are a plan of action for people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. They touch on issues such as economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion, and aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.
