The search will soon be on for local talent in the areas of singing, acting and film and television production for the pilot of an upcoming television series – Spicetown – which will be shot in Barbados later this year.

This disclosure came last evening from President of Quatrieme Vague, Daniaile Jarry, and Executive Producer of the series, Alfons Adetuyi, as they paid a courtesy call on Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley, at his office in the Warrens Office Complex.

Ms. Jarry explained that Spicetown would be a youth-oriented one hour dramady, which would feature the beauty and people of Barbados, as well as its music. She added that it would be full of romance, humour, adventure and misadventure.

Mr. Adetuyi said he was impressed with the level of talent in this island, especially in the area of song and suggested that the television series would provide a great opportunity for Barbados to be represented in the world marketplace.

Minister Lashley told them the project "sounds extremely exciting" and said they would find much talent here. "Many of our young people have an interest in this area and we want to create the enabling environment for them to function," he stated.

He added that government was keen to enact the cultural industries legislation, which would offer a number of incentives that would provide several opportunities for growth in the sector.
