The stage is set for the second business meeting of the National Youth Forum (NYF) to be held on Saturday, August 14, at the Barbados Community College.

Young Barbadians between the ages of 15 and 29, including those who attended the first business meeting, are again invited to participate in the session, which will start at 10:00 a.m.

The agenda will include the examination of a report on the recommendations for addressing the nine focus questions discussed at the first session, the identification of some of the emerging issues affecting young people, and the installation of an Interim Steering Committee.

Meanwhile, the Interim Steering Committee has been mandated to work on the Constitution of the Forum and it will report back at a later meeting.

The NYF has been set up to, among other things, mobilise young people for constructive engagement with their peers, community and the wider society; provide a permanent platform for the youth to be heard and taken seriously; empower them to seek enterprising and innovative solutions to the problems they face,

while exploring new pathways to progress; and give opportunities and support systems for young leaders to emerge.

It will be a permanent institution which will convene in various parts of the island and make recommendations to government regarding any policies required to empower the nation’s youth.
