Security guards, security guard agencies and private investigators are reminded that their licences will expire on December 31, 2009 and must be renewed by January 31, 2010.

This is in keeping with the Security Guards Act, which states that persons who fail to renew their licences, but continue to provide security services, will be liable on conviction to a fine of $5,000 or imprisonment for two years, or both.

According to an official of the Defence and Security Division of the Prime Minister’s Office, non-nationals will not be issued with security guards’ licences unless documentation is provided which verifies that the applicants are residents or citizens of Barbados, or have permits to work as security guards.??????????

A valid police certificate of character must be submitted with each application for renewal. Application forms should be collected and returned to the Defence and Security Division, Bay Street, St. Michael. The prescribed fees must also be paid when renewing the licence.
