Critical issues pertaining to the elimination of child labour, including the worst forms, will be under the microscope next week when the Ministry of Labour and Social Partnership Relations and the International Labour Organization (ILO) jointly host an Educational Child Labour seminar via Zoom.

The three-day seminar, which runs from Tuesday, December 8 to Thursday, December 10, will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. until noon, daily.

It targets personnel in the Labour Department, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the Probation Department, the Child Care Board and those who work directly with children, including nurses, the police and guidance counsellors, among others.

While a major aim is to improve the awareness and understanding of key officials and stakeholders on the issue of child labour, particularly the worst forms, the Ministry and the ILO will seek to initiate discussions on national strategies to address child labour in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and towards the elimination of all forms of child labour by 2025.

Minister of Labour and Social Partnership Relations, Colin Jordan, will deliver the feature address, while Deputy Director for ILO Caribbean Office, Lars Johansen, will bring remarks.
