Elder abuse, the death of a new born, and coping with Alzheimer’s will be some of the issues dealt with, in September, as the National Assistance Board hosts five seminars to observe Senior Citizens’ Month.

The first seminar will take place on Monday, September 21, and will focus on Alzheimer’s. Sponsored by the National Committee on Ageing, it will be held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre and runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, September 23, the Death of a Newborn in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will be the subject of the second discussion, to be held at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Auditorium, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It will be facilitated by Sharon West, a North Carolina Registered Nurse and Interim Health Director of the Buncombe County Health Center. She is also a Legal Nurse Consultant and has made several presentations on End of Life Care.

Ms. West will also be the facilitator at the third seminar, "Caring for the Elderly", on Thursday, September 24. This will be held for all NAB staff at the Police Band Headquarters, Station Hill, St. Michael, from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.

There will also be a workshop on Death Notification for Police Recruits, on Friday, September 25, at the Regional Police Training Centre, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and running until 12 noon.

The final seminar, also targeting police officers, will look at Community Policing and Elder Abuse. It will come off at the Vauxhall Senior Citizens’ Village, on Monday, September 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. emcclean@barbados.gov.bb
