Persons interested in supporting our seniors at this year’s National Senior Games may purchase their tickets from this Friday, February 27, at box offices across the island.

The Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment, Urban & Rural Development is currently planning the 8th National Senior Games which will culminate with the track and field events at the National Stadium on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm. under the theme: “Active Ageing, Ageing Active”.

According to Ministry  officials, tickets for the popular  event will be available at COST Pharmacy, Broad Street; Carlton & A1 Supermarket, Black Rock, St.Michael; Emerald City Supermarket, Six Roads, St. Philip; Fisherman’s Pub, Speightstown, St. Peter; Joe’s Pharmacy, Oistins, Christ Church; Sports  Connection, Mall Internationale, Haggat Hall, St. Michael and Sports & Games (B’dos) Ltd. Corner James & Roebuck Streets, Bridgetown.

Meanwhile, registration forms for the track and field events are already available at the following locations: National Assistance Board, Country Road, St. Michael; National Sports Council, “Blenheim”, My Lord’s Hill, St. Michael and Sports & Games (B’dos) Ltd., Cnr. James & Roebuck Streets, Bridgetown. 

Registration forms for netball may also be obtained from the National Sports Council, while basketball forms may be acquired from Anthony Lovell or Adrian Garnes at the Police Boys and Girls Club, Bay Street, St. Michael.

This year, a number of masters’ tournaments will be held in various sporting disciplines including basketball, netball, table tennis, cycling and swimming, culminating with the track and field events at the National Stadium on Saturday, April 18.

A seniors’ road race is also scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 29, starting at 6:00 a.m., beginning and ending at the National Stadium.

A whistle stop bus tour to promote the games will take place on Saturday, March 14.
