A number of public and private sector organisations will receive training in vector control next Monday, June 28, when the Environmental Health Division holds the third in a series of sensitisation workshops at its Training Centre on Jemmotts Lane.

Among those selected are employees from the National Conservation Commission, the General Post Office, Barbados Defence Force, Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, Immigration Department, Grantley Adams International Airport, DaCosta Mannings, B’s Recycling, Purity Bakeries, A & B Pest Control, Coral Reef Hotel and Accra Beach Hotel.

The training will place emphasis on enhancing participants’ knowledge about rodents and mosquitoes; ways to prevent associated diseases in their establishments and how to provide a cleaner and safer environment.

Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) will also give demonstrations on the use of the fogging machine; how to recognise mosquito larvae and eggs under a microscope; the use of the black lamp for identifying rodent urine, as well as the servicing of bait stations for the control of rodents.

??The session runs from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

It will be facilitated by Senior Environmental Health Officer, Maurice Gaskin and a team of EHOs from the Randal Phillips and Black Rock Polyclinics. jgill@barbados.gov.bb
