Twenty foster parents are expected to sharpen their skills, when the Child Care Board hosts a series of workshops during the year.

The ongoing training is designed to help parents address the needs of the children in their care.

"Dealing with Behavioural Problems, along with the Stressors of Life" is the topic of the first seminar, to be held on Wednesday, February 24. Guest speaker will be Psychiatrist, Dr. Sharon Harvey.

The other sessions will be held on Saturday, May 15; Wednesday, September 22; and Wednesday, December 1. They will all be held at the Board’s Fred Edghill Headquarters, Cheapside, St. Michael, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Board is still looking for a number of devoted persons for its Foster Care Programme. Those who wish to be short-term or long-term foster parents should immediately contact the Board at telephone number 426-2577.??

To foster a child means caring for him or her in a person’s home as part of the family, either on a short or long term basis. The children come from the Board’s residences or from families in the society who are in crisis, or under some degree of stress for various reasons.?? These may include a mother being hospitalised, the death of a parent or guardian, a child being abused or a parent’s inability to care for his or her offspring.
