Barbadians are being encouraged to attend a National Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, June 3, to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the throne.

The service will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, the City, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and members of the public must be seated 30 minutes earlier. Governor General, His Excellency, Sir??Elliott Belgrave and Prime Minister Freundel Stuart are expected to be in attendance, while a wide cross section of the community, including young people, a National Mass Choir and the Royal Barbados Police Force, will be involved in the service.

Bishop of Barbados, Dr. John Holder, will deliver the sermon and administer the benediction and blessing, while Dean of the St. Michael’s Cathedral, Reverend Frank Marshall, will be the Chief Celebrant and chair the service.

A number of prayers will be offered during the evening, including one written at the Queen’s direction for the Diamond Jubilee.
