Stigma and discrimination will come under the microscope when the National HIV/AIDS Commission and its partners put on a number of activities to celebrate Love Safely Week which will be observed from Friday, February 11 to Saturday, February 19.

It’s time to Kiss Stigma and Discrimination Goodbye is the theme of this year’s campaign.

A panel discussion entitled What Does it Mean to Love Safely will be hosted by the Silver Sands HIV Education Committee of the Community Development Department on Friday, February 11, at the St. Christopher Anglican Church Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Monday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, will see a number of activities including a Love can heal a Nation Fiesta at the Alma Parris School, sponsored by the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme and Voluntary Counselling and HIV Testing (VCT) by the Ministry of Health at Harbour Road Industrial Park and the Barbados Community College.?? The Ministry of Public Works will also host a VCT event on Tuesday, February 15. These will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

An HIV Outreach Programme will also be hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and Trade in Heroes Square on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

On Friday, February 18, an HIV production entitled Looking back at Sodom will be staged at the Frank Collymore Hall, starting at 7:00 p.m. It will be sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism.

The curtain will come down on the week with the launch of the Commission’s Positive T-shirt campaign on Saturday, February 19, in Jubilee Gardens, starting at 4:00 p.m. There will also be Voluntary Counselling and HIV Testing by the Ministry of Health between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. on that day.
