Young Barbadians between the ages of 11 and 18 are being encouraged to sign up for the Barbados Cadet Corps’ (BCC) Sea Cadet Programme.

Those interested in registering should call the BCC’s headquarters at 536-2600 or Officer in Charge, Lieutenant Commander Robert Morris, at 417-7979. They may also register online on the website of the Barbados Cadet Corps or by clicking on the registration portal.

The Sea Cadet Subunit of the BCC was formed in 1994, to help young people develop an appreciation for the importance of the sea to the environment, human existence, sustainable development, international commerce and security.

The training is also designed to help children develop high personal standards and leadership skills, as well as expose them to teamwork.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley recently stated that Government had placed $1.5 million at the disposal of the Barbados Defence Force to significantly boost its Sea Cadet complement by training an additional 1,000 secondary school children in this area.
