Six of this island’s most outstanding citizens have been honoured by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in her Birthday Honours List for 2011.

Professor Emeritus Woodville Marshall has become this country’s latest knight, receiving the title of Knight Bachelor for his services to education.

Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) awardees are: Archbishop of the West Indies and Bishop of Barbados, the Most Reverend Dr. the Hon. John Walder Dunlop Holder, for services to religion; retired Permanent Secretary, Teresa Marshall, for services to the Foreign Service; and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Barbados Port Inc., Everton Gay Walters, for services to the maritime industry.

Those presented with the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) are Deputy Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force, Lieutenant Colonel Atheline Deighncourte Cynthia Branch, for services to the military; and Managing Director of Howard’s Supermarket, Norman St. Tomburn Howard, for services to business.

The Queen’s Birthday Honours were announced last Saturday.
