Students of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic in Wildey, St. Michael will get an opportunity to learn more about HIV, receive health checks and make donations to the HIV Food Bank, when that campus hosts a health day this Thursday, November 8.

It is being hosted under the theme, Your Status is Your Responsibility, and will begin with an official opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Health Minister Donville Inniss will deliver remarks.??

Patrons will be exposed to a wide range of health services and products and can also receive HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and breast screening checks.?? Aesthetic apprentices will provide manicures, while home economics/catering students will offer health drinks to patrons.?? The event also marks the start of a three-week food drive campaign and a barrel has been placed in the reception area of the school’s main office to collect food for those persons who are in need and are living with HIV.?? The day will end around 4:00 p.m.

Personnel from a number of organisations including the HIV/AIDS Commission, the Ministry of Health, the Barbados Family Planning Association, the Mobile Breast Screening Clinic and the National Council on Substance Abuse, will also be on campus to provide information and counselling.
