Two students from the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) will leave these shores for Nova Scotia, Canada next month to pursue studies at the Community College there.

Sammar Chaplin and Larry Hoyte were presented with their scholarship documents today by Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, at the SJPP’s Wildey, St. Michael location.

Speaking before the presentation, Mr. Jones encouraged the scholarship winners to work hard, strive for excellence and make their country proud.?? "Excellence connotes and denotes a particular purpose, it is what you want to achieve," he advised.

Minister Jones also spoke to the SJPP’s Strategic Plan 2010-2015, which was launched during the proceedings.

While noting that he was generally pleased with the strategic goals outlined in the document, he cautioned management of that institution that the plans made should not be "written in granite", but flexible enough to consider any changes in the environment that could impact on the proposed objectives.

He added that he was also happy with the institutional values articulated in the strategic plan, which included credibility, transparency and accountability.

Mr. Jones also encouraged teachers and students to support the leadership of the SJPP and to be involved in the achievement of the goals set out in the plan.
