Students and staff of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic will be on the receiving end of a wide range of health information as that institution hosts a Health Day on Friday, November 23.  It will be held at the Wildey institution from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

According to Guidance Officer and co-ordinator of the event, Morris Blenman, “the aim of the event is to heighten students’ and patrons’ awareness of healthier lifestyles. They will also be exposed to a wide variety of health information, services and products,” he stated.

Under the theme ‘A Healthy Body Leads to a Healthy Mind’, the extravaganza will also provide visitors with the opportunity to obtain blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and HIV/AIDS tests.

Mr Blenman added that, “during the week of November 19 to 23, there will also be a Food Bank Drive where students and staff can donate food items to the Ministry of Health’s HIV/AIDS food bank.”

The event is expected to attract the participation of various companies and associations, including Pine Hill Dairy, BICO, WIBISCO, SBI Distribution, the Barbados Diabetic Association,  The Barbados Nurses Association, The Ministry of Health, and the National Council on Substance Abuse.
