Catalysing Entrepreneurial Development Through Sustainable Networks will be the theme for this year’s Small Business Week, which will run from this Sunday, September 18, to Saturday, September 24.

Hosted by the Small Business Association (SBA), in collaboration with Scotiabank, the annual affair is designed to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship and honour the work of small businesses across the island.

To commence the week-long activities, a Thanksgiving Concert will be held at the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre, Cheapside, Bridgetown, this Sunday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Small Business and Rural Development, Ruth Blackman, will officially launch the week, and a number of local acts, including singer Kellie Cadogan and spoken word artist Adrian Green, will perform at the event.

On Tuesday, September 20, the 4th Annual Leo Leacock Memorial Lecture will take place at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, at 7:00 p.m., Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Entrepreneurial Foundation and Founder of McKinney Rogers, Damian McKinney will be the featured speaker.

Celebrations will continue on Thursday, September 22, as the SBA and Scotiabank host a Health and Wellness Day at Jubilee Gardens in the City from 10:00 a.m. Various governmental and non-governmental organisations will be on hand to conduct health checks and there it will also be a special aerobics session.

Also scheduled for that day is the Scotiabank Small Business Seminar, which will focus on Cash Flow Management. It be held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, at 6:00 p.m. Persons who are interested in attending are asked to register with the SBA by calling 228-0162 or 271-1129.

A 20/20 Cricket Match and Lime at Passage Road playing field, St. Michael, is another highlight of Small Business Week. The event, which will take place on Friday, September 23, at 6:00 p.m., will see staff and members of the SBA compete against the organisation’s strategic partners. There will be music by a live DJ and food and drinks will be on sale.

The public is invited to attend these events in support of Small Business Week 2011.
