The Small Business Association (SBA) will honour and recognise the work of its members, in their efforts to build up the entrepreneurial class in the island, during a week of activities.

Chief Executive Officer, Lynette Holder, outlined the events to the media today during the official opening of the John Watson Computer Centre at the SBA’s No.1 Pelican Industrial Park, St. Michael Headquarters.

The Centre was named after Watson in recognition of his sterling work during the 1970’s.

During the ceremony, SBA President, Celeste Foster, said despite the economic crisis, the sector had held its own although falling short of its target of creating new businesses. "The growth that we agreed over the last 12 months is not in line with what we had anticipated.?? We set ourselves some very lofty targets and we are just 15 per cent off our target of the creation of 500 new businesses."

Meanwhile, the SBA activities will start on Sunday, September 20, with a thanksgiving concert at 6:00 p.m. at the Barbados Museum, the Garrison, St. Michael, which will feature the best in local gospel talent.On Tuesday, September 22, Professor Avinash Persaud, will deliver the Leo Leacock Memorial Lecture. It will take place at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, Cave Hill Campus starting at 7:00 p.m.

The following day, Wednesday September 23, there will be a career showcase for students participating in the SBA’s Enterprise in Action Schools’ Programme at its Pelican Industrial Park offices starting at 11:00 a.m.

As the week draws to a close, members will test their cricketing skills on the field during a 20/20 night cricket match at the Barbados Lumber Company Grounds, Waterford, St. Michael, at 7:00 p.m.

A dinner and awards ceremony on Saturday, September 26, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, will bring the curtain down on the week of activities.?? This event gets underway from 7:00 p.m.
