Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steve Blackett, took time out recently to honour staff of that Ministry who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in the execution of their duties.

Speaking at a retirement and awards ceremony at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Needhams Point, St. Michael, Mr. Blackett boasted that his Ministry was “one of the most diverse” in Government. He acknowledged that despite the current economic climate and challenges facing the country, his staff continued to work with limited resources.

“I must commend you for having chosen to work with such a high degree of commitment and dedication to your assigned tasks. This bears testimony to your compassion and empathy to function in your respective capacities and to love what you do,” he lauded.

He also extended a special ‘thank you’ to those who had retired from service to that Ministry. “I want to thank you for dedicating so many of your years to the service of others. Along with assisting those less fortunate, you would have also assisted in moulding some of your colleagues along the way, perhaps even shaping the great institution that is the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development,” he remarked.

Over the course of the evening, departmental awards were given in the following categories: Knowledge of Job and Managing Work, Customer Service, Team Work and General Work Conduct. Awards were also bestowed upon persons who retired within the past year.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the coveted Minister of Social Care Award which is reserved for the most outstanding staff member in that Ministry. This year’s recipient was System Administrator in the Social Care Ministry, Kerry Alleyne, who also won in the categories of Customer Service and Team Work.

This year marks the fourth year since the introduction of the Minister of Social Care Awards.
