Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steven Blackett, has encouraged his Ministry???s staff to continue to ???foster a culture of excellence??? as they build a public service for the future.

Mr. Blackett was addressing a retirement and awards ceremony last Saturday at St. Ann???s Fort, The Garrison, during which several outstanding employees were rewarded for their hard work over the past year.

Awards and commendations were also bestowed on several retiring employees, who were praised for their commitment to duty.

The Social Care Minister lauded the achievements of the persons who were selected by their colleagues to receive awards in the various categories.

???I am acutely aware of the dedication and commitment of the Ministry???s staff and the intrinsic motivation that propels your performance. For this I want to say thank you. You are a credit to this Ministry and by extension the Government and people of Barbados,??? Mr. Blackett praised.

While highlighting that the aim of the Ministry was to transform society through the provision of equal opportunities for all citizens, Mr. Blackett thanked all staff members who had contributed to the accomplishments of the Ministry, in spite of the many challenges faced.

Encouraging staff to continue to ???foster a culture of excellence as we build a public service for the future???, the Minister assured those present that there were great rewards in store for them as they continued to work to advance the social wellbeing of the country.

???As we continue our mission to reduce and alleviate poverty; take care of our children and the elderly; bring relief and comfort to our disabled and those afflicted and affected by HIV and AIDS, our reward will be returned to us tenfold,??? he declared.

Among those honoured at the ceremony was Ingrid Miller, a steno/typist with the National HIV Commission, who received the prestigious Minister???s Award.
