Past and present staff of the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, have been awarded for their hard work and dedication, at the Ministry’s annual Awards and Retirement Ceremony.

At the function, held last Saturday at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Minister Steven Blackett stated that despite financial, human resource and accommodation constraints which affected the various agencies within the Ministry, especially frontline personnel, the staff continued to perform a “remarkable” job.

“You function where others might falter, persevere where others might quit and smile when it would have been much easier to frown. There are no words that would truly express my profound gratitude for all of your efforts,” he told his audience.

Mr. Blackett said that while he might have ideas about strategies and policies he would like to implement, “it would all come to naught” without staff members. He reassured those who did not receive an award that they were all “an invaluable part of an extremely important team”.

“This Ministry does not have any unimportant staff. You are all extremely valuable to the proper, daily functioning of our agencies. Have you ever realised how uncomfortable it can be if the maids or messengers are absent for just one day, or if the typists are unavailable, if we can’t get a file from the registry or an LPO from the accounts section, or if the PS and her administrative staff are not available? You are all necessary cogs in this wheel and I appreciate the work of every single one of you,” he declared.

He also thanked the retirees gathered for dedicating so many years to the service of others, assisting those less fortunate than themselves and moulding their colleagues to shape the “great institution” that is the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development.
