In its first meeting for 2012, the Sub-Committee of the Social Partnership has reviewed the Draft National Employment Policy and the Barbados Competitiveness Programme.

An official from the Manpower, Research and Statistical Unit of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security presented the draft policy at the meeting, which was held last Friday at Solidarity House in St. Michael.

Members of the Sub-Committee of the Social Partnership were able to examine and critique the draft, which includes creating employment opportunities, enhancing labour supply, in addition to promoting equality and equity in the workplace, specifically towards youth and persons with disabilities.??

The tripartite partners, who were also in attendance, comprised representatives of the island’s trade unions, private sector and government.??

The Barbados Competitiveness Programme seeks to enhance this country’s global competitiveness through a coherent framework, business development initiatives and incentives, as well as strengthening public and private sector relations, among other things.??
