The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth Foundation, will host a panel discussion this Friday, as part of the Partners’ Forum, a precursor to the 9th Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting (WAMM).

The Partners Forum will be held on Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5 and is a meeting of civil society players from throughout the Commonwealth. The summit has as its theme: Gender Issues in the Economic Crisis, Recovery and Beyond: Women as Agents of Transformation.

The symposium will be held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC) at 2:00 p.m. and will focus on the topic: Strengthening Social Inclusion and Development: Social Policy Responses in the Context of Small Island Developing States.

UNIFEM Regional Programme Director, Roberta Clarke, will present on the subject:?? The Social Context of Vulnerability Causes and Consequences and UNICEF Representative, Tom Olson, will discuss Social Safety Nets as a Component of the Policy Response. Meanwhile, Director General of the OECS Secretariat, Dr. Len Ismail, will examine The Vulnerability of Small Island Developing States and the Need for Different Development Thinking.

The 9th WAMM, which will also be held at the LESC from June 7 to 9, shares the same theme.??lbayley@barbados.gov.bb
