Retrenched National Conservation Commission (NCC) workers who opted not to have their cases heard by the Tribunal have begun to receive their severance payments.

Confirmation of this came from Minister of the Environment and Drainage, Dr. Denis Lowe, who stated on Monday, that 56 of the 85 workers entitled to severance payments had already collected their cheques, while the remaining 29 have to collect theirs from the NCC.

???We are happy these 85 persons are getting their payments and we anticipate within the next days the others will come and collect their cheques,??? Dr. Lowe said, while thanking the Minister of Finance, and staff from his Ministry and the NCC for moving to have the matter of payments expedited.

Dr. Lowe also praised the Barbados Workers??? Union for being ???sufficiently sensitive??? to the challenges workers and the Commission faced in bringing closure to this part of the process.
