A special assembly will be held at Coleridge and Parry School tomorrow, Friday, February 19, as part of the school???s activities to mark African Awareness Month.

The event will take place in the school hall from 9:00 a.m.

Under the theme: Up, You Mighty Race, Accomplish What You Will, students of the Ashton Hall, St. Peter, institution will be urged to recall their African heritage.

There will be performances by the school???s choir; Spoken Word Artist, Adrian Green; a presentation by Len Sehntwali on African music and stilt walking; as well as a display on sculpting by the noted Ras Illix, from Temple Yard.

Pan- Africanist Kofi Akobi will also address students and teachers on the chosen theme and there will a video presentation on traditional African hairstyles. Teachers will also play their part by wearing and modelling African garb towards the end of the assembly.

According to Acting Head of General Studies at the school, Achirri Adams, the theme, which represents famous words from Marcus Garvey, aims to bring awareness to the great accomplishments of Africans and African descendants worldwide. ???We hope to inspire the present generation to seek excellence always,??? the teacher said.
