The use of social media to market Barbados and the sports tourism niche will be in focus next January, when the Ministry of Tourism hosts its annual Speech Competition.

The event, which is part of the Ministry’s Tourism Education Awareness and Me (TEAM) programme, will challenge students ages 14 to 17 to present their ideas on one of the topics, and an additional ???Mystery Tourism Topic’ which will be given on competition day.??

In an effort to expose participants to the sector, the Ministry will host preparatory activities, including a session offering an introduction to tourism in Barbados and the Caribbean; and a study tour to local attractions.

Schools, both private and public, are encouraged to submit expressions of interest, stating the names of two students to represent their institutions, by Wednesday, November 28.??

This TEAM programme was created to increase student awareness about Barbadian and Caribbean tourism issues, while increasing their understanding of the sector’s importance.

Additional information on the Speech Competition may be obtained by contacting Marsha Armstrong or Jacqueline Pollard at 430-7500.
