Speightstown, St. Peter. (FP)

Come Friday, February 28, the Speightstown By-pass road will be renamed.

Minister of Labour and Social Partnership Relations, Colin Jordan, who is also Member of Parliament for St. Peter, disclosed during St. Peter’s Pride of Barbados Awards Ceremony, last evening, that the road would be renamed the Kenmore “Doc” Husbands Highway.

Sir Kenmore Husbands was the first black speaker of the House of Assembly, and was hailed by Minister Jordan as an icon of Speightstown and Barbados.

He stated that it was “fitting” to have the name change at this time, not only because it was St. Peter’s month of We Gatherin’ celebrations, but also because it was African Awareness month.

The renaming ceremony will take place this Friday, at the BTI Carpark, Speightstown, at 3:30 p.m.  Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley will deliver remarks and unveil the sign.
