This weekend’s Spirit of the Nation Show has received a financial boost from corporate Barbados, with the presentation of a sponsorship cheque from the Royal Bank of Canada.

Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steve Blackett received the cheque today from Manager of Client Care and Operations, Eudine Barnes, at Government Headquarters.

Minister Blackett thanked the bank for its “good corporate citizenship” and support over the last three years. He also expressed the hope that the partnership would continue for the foreseeable future.

Ms. Barnes also expressed the bank’s pleasure at being associated with such a cultural event.
The annual Spirit of the Nation Show will see performers from each parish vie for the top prize in the 2008 Independence Celebrations.

It will take place this coming Saturday, November 15, at the Garfield Sobers Complex, Wildey, starting at 6:00 p.m.

This year’s representatives in the parish talent are: The Rhema Dancers of St. Thomas; Ryan Leach of St. John; Alva Hope of St. Joseph; and while the St. Jude’s Brownies Unit of St. George.

They will be joined by Jermaine Gittens from St. Philip; Andre Belle of St. Michael; Kimesha King of Christ Church; the musical group ‘C Plus’ from St. Lucy; the St. Andrew’s Primary School; Answar Gaskin of St. James; and Shavonne Dottin and students of the Gordon Greenidge Primary School from St. Peter.

The most outstanding Parish Ambassadors will be named during the ceremony while popular entertainer and Krosfyah lead vocalist, Edwin Yearwood, will be the guest performer at the event.
