The fourth Sports in the Community Inter-Parish Road Tennis Tournament, organised by the National Sports Council will begin this Sunday, October 27, at 9:30 a.m. with a preliminary match at Olive Drive, St. Philip.

Matches are scheduled to continue weekly until January 11, 2014, at the Dover Hard Courts, Christ Church.

In an effort to encourage more junior road tennis players to participate in the tournament, the National Sports Council has expanded the juniors??? category to include an Under 21 Division.

It is hoped that principals and physical education teachers would also encourage their students to become involved in the island???s indigenous sport ??? a move the National Sports Council regards as critical to sustaining road tennis on the island.

To encourage greater community participation, a number of additional venues have been sourced for the tournament. These are Lexi???s Bar, Oistins; Silver Hill, Christ Church; Belleplaine, St. Andrew; and the Barbados Defence Force.

Twelve teams will represent the 11 parishes, with the two teams hailing from the St. Michael district.

Registration forms are available from the National Sports Council, My Lord???s Hill, St. Michael. The entry fee is $5 per person. The deadline for each round of competition will be two days before the scheduled start.

Interested persons may contact the National Sports Council at 430-7700.
