Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, has congratulated Barbados??? under-16 netball team and the Barbados Netball Association on their success at the recently concluded 2014 Jean Pierre Netball Championship in Antigua.

The Barbados Netball team placed second, with Sheniqua Thomas receiving the President???s Award and a trophy as the Most Valuable Player. The team also copped awards for the Best Team Spirit and the Top Shooting Team during the tournament.

Mr. Lashley said that it was through the attainment of these awards at the regional level that Barbadian sportspersons had demonstrated once again that ???excellence abounds in Barbados???.

He expressed the hope that this feat would be emulated by athletes in all of the other sporting disciplines.?????We, in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth will continue to be supportive of our sportspersons and especially our youth in their pursuit of glory,??? he added.

He also singled out Sports Administrator, Kathy Harper-Hall for praise, in the wake of her receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the championship. He noted that the accomplishment ???comes as no surprise, as Mrs. Harper-Hall has been for many years, and continues to be an outstanding athlete, official, administrator and a contributor to the development of netball and many other sporting disciplines, both at the local, regional and international levels.???

The Barbados team was coached by Julie Phillips and returned home last week.
