Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, has congratulated Barbados??? Senior Women???s Hockey Team for its stellar performance in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this weekend.
Mr. Lashley, who released a statement to the media, praised the team for its 3-0 victory over Peru in the finals of the Aquece Rio International Hockey Championship.
???This, of course, is a great achievement for Barbados??? Senior Women???s Hockey Team. I would like to congratulate all the members of the team, the management, [and] the coaches for a significant effort,??? he said.
???The government, through the National Sports Council, continues to dedicate itself to providing the necessary support to this team and to hockey generally,??? the Minister stated.
While underscoring government???s commitment to the sport, the Minister also referred to the long awaited Hockey AstroTurf, noting that it was now on the island and all ???efforts are being made to ensure that the turf is installed within the shortest possible time frame???.
