Barbados’ most outstanding Sports Personality for 2009 will be announced shortly.

The announcement will be made next Wednesday, January 13, when the National Sports Council (NSC) hosts a press conference at its Blenheim, My Lord’s Hill, St. Michael Headquarters.

Chairman of the NSC, Henry Inniss, and Chairman of the Awards Committee, Andrew Sealy, are expected to address the media.

The Sports Personality of the Year award was introduced in 1984 to highlight Barbadian sportspersons who excelled at the highest level in their various disciplines during the year.

Gold medalist at the 2008 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, Ivorn McKnee, was the Sports Personality for that year, while World Junior Champion in the heptathlon, Shane Brathwaite, was the 2007 winner. saustin@barbados.gov.bb
