Barbados’ most outstanding Sports Personality for 2010 will be announced shortly.

The announcement will be made next Thursday, December 30, when the National Sports Council (NSC) hosts a press conference at its Blenheim, My Lord’s Hill, St. Michael Headquarters. Officials will also disclose plans for the NSC’s Awards Ceremony early next year, including the person who will deliver the feature address.?? ??

The Sports Personality of the Year award was introduced in 1984 to highlight Barbadian sportspersons who excelled at the highest level in their various disciplines during the year.

Outstanding athlete, Ambassador Ryan Brathwaite, was chosen as Barbados’ Sports Personality for 2009, after winning a gold medal in the 110 metres hurdles at the International Association of Athletics Federation’s World Championships in Berlin, in a time of 13:14 seconds.

Gold medalist at the 2008 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, Ivor McKnee, was the Sports Personality for that year, while World Junior Champion in the heptathlon, Shane Brathwaite, was the 2007 winner.??saustin@barbados.gov.bb
