Sir Frederick Smith

The significant contribution made by retired jurist, Sir Frederick Smith to national development will be recognised once again.

The St. James Secondary School, located at Trents, St. James, will be renamed in his honour on Friday, November 23.

The ceremony starts at 10:00 a.m. and will be addressed by Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, who will also unveil a plaque bearing the name of the Frederick Smith Secondary School.

Sir Frederick, who received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in November 1987, served as Attorney General of Barbados from 1966 to 1971. He was conferred with the honorary degree, Doctor of Laws in 2006, by Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Sir George Alleyne.

St. James Secondary School was founded in 1979.?? The co-educational school has a roll of approximately 1,000 students, and its Acting Principal is Mrs. Coreen Campbell.
