Parents of teenage children who attend the St. Mary???s Church will be given essential tips on how to discuss sex, HIV and healthy relationships with their charges at a Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) HIV sensitisation workshop.

The outreach initiative takes place tomorrow, Saturday, January 4, at 4:00 p.m. at the St. Mary???s Church, Cheapside, Bridgetown.

It is designed to provide parents with factual information about sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV and AIDS and healthy relationships. It is anticipated that participants would then be equipped with the adequate skills to discuss these topics with their children.

Rector of the St. Mary???s Church, Rev. Dr. Von Watson, will give the welcome remarks, while lead singers of the Christian music group, Larix and Nicovia will speak about the importance of communicating with children.

Behavioural Change Communications Specialist at the National HIV Commission, Alexis Nurse, will facilitate the sessions: HIV 101 ??? facts everyone should know about HIV and AIDS, as well as How to Talk to Your Children about Sex and Healthy Relationships.

To date, the HIV Internal Education Committee of the BGIS has also conducted HIV sensitisation workshops for teenagers, sports persons, entertainers, members of the disabled community and under or unemployed women.
