Independence will be the focus this coming Saturday, when the St. Peter Parish Independence Committee, hosts a series of activities aimed at fostering closer community ties throughout the parish.

Nature lovers can test their stamina by participating in a nature walk at the Arbib Trail, on Saturday, September 4, starting at 6:30 a.m.?? Walkers will assemble at the Barbados National Bank’s Speightstown branch.?? The following day, Sunday, September, 5, there will be a heritage walk/run, starting at 4:00 p.m., from the St. Peter’s Cemetery at Road View.

The celebrations will continue on Tuesday, September 14, with a lecture in the Speightstown Esplanade on Heritage Tourism.?? It will be delivered by Deputy Chairman of the Barbados Tourism Authority, Austin Husbands.?? On Saturday, September 18, the festivities will move into high gear with a street parade outside the Alexandra School, followed by a fair on the school’s grounds.?? This event gets underway from 12:30 p.m.??

There will be a fun day on the Speightstown Playing Field, starting at 10:00 a.m. Other activities slated for the month are a speech demonstration on Thursday, September 23, a Northern talent show scheduled for the Coleridge and Parry School, on Saturday, September 25, and an awards ceremony on Sunday, September 26. jwilson@barbados.gov.bb
