Chairperson of the St. Peter Parish Independence Committee, Sherryl Griffith, has called the PIC ‘Community Service Day’ project, at Keith Boyce Pavilion, a success.

As part of their community give back effort, the committee selected the Keith Boyce Pavilion, located at the Diamondshire Club, Moore Hill, St. Peter, for their project.

Ms. Griffith explained that the location was chosen because the members “saw it fitting to ‘give back’ to the club, in recognition of the outstanding work done by the late Keith Boyce, in the sport of cricket to Barbados, the West Indies and Essex County in the UK”.

Before the official clean-up day, two site visits were conducted; one of which was attended by Parliamentary Representative for St. Peter, Colin Jordan, and National Sports Council’s (NSC) Superintendent of Works, Nicholas Matthias, to assess the area and identify what work needed to be done.

As agreed, the NSC cut the grass on the field, while the Sanitation Services Authority collected the bulk waste from the environs, on July 28 and 29.

On Saturday, July 31, the official work-day, the St. Peter PIC Ambassadors, the Attendant and executive members worked alongside members of the cricket club, the road tennis club, the Lions Club and residents from the district and surrounding communities to clean up the area, as well as plant fruit trees on the pavilion grounds.

There was also a road tennis demonstration game by President of the Club’s Road Tennis group, Vilmore Jackman, and Jilian Joseph – a Barbadian on holiday from the USA.

The day came to a close with the PIC’s donation of four garbage bins to the Diamondshire Club, which were painted in the parish’s colour – lime green, and carried the PIC’s environmental logo.
