Be our Voice, will be the theme of celebrations, when the St. Philip District Hospital marks Senior Citizens Week, from this coming Sunday, September 9.
The week will begin with a church service at the Holy Trinity Church, Ruby, St. Philip, at 8:45 a.m. Then on Tuesday, September 11, there will be an open day at the Hospital, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., when a decorative display produced by wards of the hospital, a display of artwork by Fielding Babb, and craft exhibitions will be on show.
The following day, Wednesday, September 12, the focus will be on informal care givers during a half-day seminar at the Horatio Cook Auditorium, National Union of Public Workers’ Headquarters, Dalkeith, St. Michael, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.?? Managers in social and welfare departments, health care professionals, supervisors of residential care facilities and informal care givers are urged to attend.??
According to Principal Nursing Officer of the Hospital, Lolene Rawlins, the seminar will "create an awareness of the existence of the many informal caregivers in society; acknowledge the value of the informal caregiver, especially for the elderly; and emphasise the need to create and implement policies for guiding a strong support network for informal caregivers".??
Facilitators for the event are:?? President of the Alzheimer’s Association, Pamelia Brereton, who will address Care Giving; Reverend Esther Willoughby will explore the Psychological, Social and Spiritual Aspects of Care; and Senior Social Worker at the National Assistance Board, James Cummins, will speak to The Present Situation and the Way Forward.?? The final public event for the week will be held on Thursday, September 13, when the wards of the hospital invite the public to "Meet us at the [Richard Haynes] Boardwalk" on the south coast from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
