The St. Philip District Hospital will be hosting a "Senior Citizens Week of Activities" from September 11 to 17, aimed at increasing social activity and establish friendly relations between staff and residents.

This year’s activities will be held under the acronym, E.L.D.E.R.L.Y, which stands for "Embrace, Love, Dedication, Encouragement, Respect, Longevity, Youth". Purple will be the colour of the week.

The Activities begin on Sunday, September 11, with an Ecumenical Church Service in the hospital court yard, and continue the following day with a Fun Day for the patients. ??Attorney General,??Adriel Brathwaite, will be in attendance and blessings will be performed by Pastor Christie of the Weslyan Holiness Church.

??On Tuesday, September 13, the hospital will host a special event for the island’s youth, and school children, in particular, are invited to attend. Youth from various institutions will have an opportunity to interact with older members of the community, and gain some insight into Barbadian history and culture. Barbadian artist Fielding Babb, will be featured, demonstrating how to handle a tin (tot) to make a tea cup, as was used in olden days. Artifacts of cultural significance will also be on display, and professional persons will be on hand to discuss career options in health for students.

Wednesday, September 14, will see a seminar being hosted on "Home and Community-Based Care for the Elderly".?? The session will be held at the Pan American Health Organization, (PAHO), and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Minister of Social Care, Steve Blackett, will give opening remarks and Minister of Health, Donville Inniss, will give the feature address.??

Staff and residents will enjoy a scenic tour on Thursday, September 15.?? On Friday September 16, there will be a Staff Appreciation Day and barbeque at the St. Philip District Hospital.?? On Saturday, September 17, the public will get an insight into the operations of the hospital during its Open Day. It will be held at the same venue.
