The St. Philip Parish Independence Committee (PIC) will host a few activities this month, in celebration of the parish.

The first activity, a Hike and Breadfruit Bowl, is scheduled to take place this Saturday, July 13, from 3:00 p.m.  

The hike will start at Ragged Point, St. Philip, travel through the areas of Sleeves Bay, Walkers, and Culpepper Island, and conclude at the Ragged Point lighthouse for the breadfruit roast. Persons are asked to bring their own breadfruit and toppings, however, natural drinks will be on sale.

The following Sunday, July 21, the committee will host its Heritage Tour, which will depart from the Princess Margaret Secondary School, St. Philip at 1:00 p.m. 

The tour will visit several sites of interest throughout the parish, via coaches, and return to the school for 4:00 p.m.  Persons may travel with their own food and beverages, as the tour will make a few stops at well-known spots for refreshment breaks.

The month of activities will conclude on Wednesday, July 31, with Night of The Griots! an evening of storytelling, poetry and music, at Golden Grove, St. Philip beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Persons will learn more about the history of the area; view a display of literature and art; and be entertained by Cultural Ambassador, Stedson “Red Plastic Bag” Wiltshire, Adonijah, Praise Academy of Dance and many more.
