The Environmental Health Department of the St. Philip Polyclinic will start its annual primary school quiz competition on Dengue and Leptospirosis, this Friday, November 6. The first semi-final will be held at the Valley Resource Centre in St. George, from 10:00 a.m.

Four schools – St. George Primary; St. Jude’s Primary; St. Luke’s Primary and Workman’s Primary – will compete in that semi-final.

On Thursday, November 12, the second semi-final will take place at the Barbados Workers’ Union Labour College, Mangrove, at 10:00 a.m. Six schools from St. Philip, will vie for supremacy, namely St. Catherine’s; Bayley’s Primary; Hilda Skeene; St. Philip Primary; Reynold Weekes School and St. Marks.

The following day Friday, November 13, at 10:00 a.m., four schools from St. John will meet in the third semi-final at the St. John Parish Church. They are St. John’s; St. Margaret; Mount Tabor and Society.

The environmental health primary school quiz, designed to test children’s knowledge in health science, also reflects the curriculum of the Ministry of Education. ??Its key aim is to educate children about preventing and controlling the incidence of vectors that cause dengue and leptospirosis.

It will culminate on Friday, November 20, with the Quiz Final, at the Valley Resource Centre in St. George, between the three top schools from the semi-finals. Students will vie for trophies and books, sponsored by the Ministry of Health.
