Stephen Lashley??

Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, has heard the complaints about the track at the National Stadium and is currently assembling a team to examine what is happening there.

Mr. Lashley made the disclosure last evening while addressing the CARIFTA athletes, their parents and officials during a reception at Hilton Barbados.

"I have determined that I will schedule the management team of the Ministry and the National Sports Council to look very quickly at the state of the track at the stadium, with a view to ensuring that you are not disadvantaged in your training leading up to the various competitions.

He added that in relation to the Aquatic Centre, he had heard the concerns and would be meeting with officials there shortly, to examine how the objectives could be achieved.

??The Sports Minister commended the swimmers and track and field athletes for winning 66 medals, stating that it spoke volumes about their calibre. "It is unbelievable that some persons in their analysis of your performances could be so dissatisfied with your medal achievement. I certainly am not. I implore you to disregard such analysis and comments, because your performances have been nothing short of phenomenal, given our limited resources as a small island.

"We applaud your having given of your best and we are confident that we will witness even greater performances as you continue to develop in your respective specialties," he stated.

Mr. Lashley also acknowledged the work of the coaches and administrators of the Amateur Athletic Association, the Barbados Amateur Swimming Association and the National Sports Council, noting that the officials worked tirelessly to optimise the potential of the athletes.
