The Ministry of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship will hold town hall meetings and stakeholder consultations virtually to discuss the implications of utilising wind energy as an additional renewable energy source.

The consultations began on Monday, November 16, and included participants from the public and private sectors, such as the Coastal Zone Management Unit, the Ministry of Environment and Beautification, Barbados Meteorological Services, Town and Country Development Planning Office, Barbados Renewable Energy Association, Barbados National Oil Company Limited, and the Fair Trading Commission, among others.

During the week of Monday, November 23, to Friday, November 27, there will be three town hall meetings for residents living near the proposed optimal wind zones:  St. Lucy, St Peter, St. Andrew, St. John, St. George, Christ Church and St. Philip.

The main objective of the town hall meetings is to discuss and to get feedback on the draft policy guidelines and gap analysis; and the economic and environmental impacts on and benefits to communities located near the proposed wind energy facilities.

A copy of the draft policy guidelines, the gap analysis and the link to register for the town hall meetings, will be available on the Ministry’s website.
