Stakeholders in the local and regional agriculture, food and fisheries sectors will have an opportunity later this year to share their views on pertinent issues related to these areas.
They will be able to do so at the Caribbean Food Crops Society’s (CFCS) 47th annual meeting, which will be held here from July 3 to 9, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
The theme of the event is "Assuring Caribbean Food and Nutrition Security in the context of Climate Change."
The meeting is expected to bring together scientists, technicians, planners, farmers, agriculturalists and other stakeholders to discuss critical issues related to agriculture, food and fisheries, particularly ways of moving the sectors forward and highlighting some of their major achievements.
Participants will also discuss areas such as Crop/Livestock Production, Pest Management, Post-Harvest Technology/Agro-Processing, Land and Water Resources, Soils and Fertility Management, Marketing, Economics and Policy Issues, Agricultural Education and Extension, Fisheries Management, Sustainable Agriculture, Food Safety and Security, Floriculture and Horticulture and Food and Nutrition.
Some 150 delegates are expected for the CFCS Conference, which is being coordinated by the Government of Barbados, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries, Industry and Small Business Development.
Deputy Chief Agriculture Officer and Chairman of the Scientific Organising Committee, Ralph Farnum, called on persons who wished to contribute to the conference through the presentation of papers, videos, and/or posters, to indicate their interest to the organising committee as soon as possible.
He said the presentations were not limited to scientists and technocrats but all stakeholders in the agricultural sector would have an opportunity to make submissions.
The deadline for the handing in of abstracts, with a brief outline of what the presentation, video or work is about, is Monday, January 31.?? Abstracts should be no more than 350 words.
