Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban and Rural Development, Christopher Sinckler

Government will be initiating Phase One of the implementation of its Constituency Councils programme early in the New Year, having decided on a framework model for their structure and operation.

Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban and Rural Development, Christopher Sinckler, revealed this during a statement in Parliament earlier today. He stated that draft legislation on the Councils should be brought to Parliament by the end of January 2009.

Minister Sinckler also disclosed the various means by which Phase One would be implemented.  These include: advertisements in print and electronic media about the Constituency Council process; notices being sent to all community organisations and non-governmental organisations about participating in a registration exercise; and the launch of six Councils.
