Former Acting Chief Information Officer, Erskine Callender (FP)

Acting Chief Information Officer, Erskine Callender assumed duties as Deputy Chief Information Officer, Government Information Service (GIS) in January 2000.

Prior to that, Mr. Callender had risen through the ranks of the Public Service, beginning in the clerical stream and serving in a number of departments including the GIS. He was promoted to the post of assistant information officer in the 1970s. However, it was at the Audio Visual Aids Department that he honed his technical skills, serving as a teacher/ presenter from 1982 to 2000.

At GIS, he brought considerable technical knowledge to the job when he assumed overall responsibility for the broadcast division. Mr. Callender had a passionate interest in preserving the historical images of Barbados and worked towards improving GIS archival role.

It was always his dream that the department would be fully equipped to compete in this modern technical environment and he pursued this to his fullest. His interest was in making GIS a place of excellence.

To his sorrowing family, relatives and friends, the staff of the GIS extend our deepest sympathy.
