Small business owners and entrepreneurs of St. Thomas will be the target of the next Straight Talk to be hosted by the Ministry of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce as part of that parish’s We Gatherin’ programme.

Under the theme: Open For Business – Developing Communities Through Entrepreneurship, it will be held at the Lester Vaughan School, on Monday, March 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Straight Talk aims to enlighten residents and business owners on the role and function of the Ministry, as well as the likely benefits of the year-long We Gatherin’ exercise. 

It will also provide an insight into the work of the Small Business Development Centre network and the myriad opportunities for funding and promoting products and services including through investment and export.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Cynthia Forde, will share her vision for developing entrepreneurship in the parish, with specific focus on the community business project at Rock Hall, St. Thomas.

Minister of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce, Dwight Sutherland, will address the forum and lead a panel of entrepreneurs who will speak to the topic.

Presenters will include: owner of Coral by Hand, Omar Ward; owner of Earthworks Pottery, David Speiler; physiotherapist, Dr. Phyllis Burnett; and manager of Shine Automotive, Dario Greenidge.

The moderator will be Lecturer and Coordinator of the Student Entrepreneurial, Empowerment and Development, The University of the West Indies, Ayanna Young-Marshall.

Members of the public are invited to attend.
