The strong relationship that has existed between Barbados and the United States throughout the years will continue and be strengthened.

This assurance was given by Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Chris Sinckler, following a meeting with US Charge D’Affaires, Christopher Sandrolini, today at Government Headquarters.

Mr. Sinckler noted that the two countries had always enjoyed very good bilateral ties based on mutual respect, bolstered by a strong commitment to the maintenance of the practice of democracy.

The Finance Minister pointed to the recent visits of the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton; Attorney General, Eric Holder Jrn. and US Secretary of Defence, Robert Gates as evidence of this bond and expressed the hope that the relationship would "go from strength to strength".

Mr. Sinckler emphasised that Barbados and the United States needed to work together since the two nations shared the same hemispheric space.

In turn, Mr. Sandrolini said his country was committed to assisting Barbados and the region through such security programmes as the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative. He added that the United States also wanted to strengthen the Regional Security System.

Barbados and the United States established diplomatic relations in 1966.
