Minister of International Business and International Transport, George Hutson

Since establishing diplomatic relations with Cuba in December 1972, Barbados and Cuba have "worked hard" to maintain strong and friendly ties.

This view was expressed by Cuban Ambassador, Lissette P??rez P??rez, during a recent courtesy call on Minister of International Business and International Transport, George Hutson, at the Ministry’s Warrens Office Complex headquarters.

Ms. P??rez P??rez stated that although the two countries had been cordial over the years, it was her hope that now Barbados had established an Embassy in Havana, more could be done in terms of working together.

Minister Huston agreed and noted that the opportunities were there to strengthen relations and suggested that with the establishment of a direct air services link, both countries could benefit significantly. He further added that there was a niche market for Cuba, once packaged correctly.

He also told the envoy that the two territories shared a "strong" heritage link as there are many Cubans of Barbadian descent residing in her homeland.
